My Medicare is a voluntary new system that allows you to officially register with your regular GP and practice — like us here at Southlands General Practice.
It simply formalizes what you’re already doing: seeing your usual GP who knows your history, your health needs, and how to best look after you.
What are the benefits?

By registering with Southlands General Practice under My Medicare:
-
Your GP can better coordinate your care.
-
You will be eligible for longer telehealth consultations (important if you need regular reviews, mental health care, or have complex or chronic conditions).
-
Over time, My Medicare will be linked to new Medicare funding models designed to strengthen regular, ongoing care.

Who can register?

You can register if:
-
You have a Medicare card or DVA Veteran Card.
-
You’ve attended Southlands General Practice for at least 2 face-to-face visits in the past 2 years.

Is it compulsory?

No. My Medicare is entirely voluntary. You’ll still have full access to Medicare-funded services whether you register or not.

How do I register?

Online self-registration

-
Log in to your Medicare Online Account (via myGov), or use the Express Plus Medicare app.

Register directly with us

-
We can print a MyMedicare Registration Form for you to complete.

Once signed, we’ll process the registration on your behalf.

Can I change my registered practice later?

You are not locked in forever. If you register elsewhere in the future, your previous registration with us will automatically end.
